Ateneo de Manila University dominated the STI sponsored 2007-08 Metro Schools Baseball Softball Tournament by winning 3 of 6 Boys Baseball Divisions, the Pinto (7-8yrs old), Bronco (11-12 yrs old) & Pony (13-14yrs old) making them outright General Champions of the Leagues’ 13th Season.
Meanwhile, Woodrose School after winning the Girls Softball Grade School Division against Miriam College fell short on their General Championship campaign as they only garnered 3rd Place in the High School Division. This paved the way for Dark Horse Miriam High School Team to come from behind, beating 6-time Champion Poveda for the High School Championship that earned them their 3rd General Championship Trophy.
The Ateneo feat did not come easy since they had to overcome a twice to beat advantage of La Salle Green Hills in the tension filled Bronco Championship. The Greenies had already won the Mustang and Colt Divisions and was just one win away to grab the General Championship plum from Ateneo by one point. Perennial General Champions Southridge School tried very hard to defend its title only to succumb to the “Blitzkrieg” of La Salle and Ateneo.
TOT Baseball President Boy Tingzon mentioned that this year was the most competitive season ever; even the General Championship was decided by only 1game. This signals the changing of the guard in the Metro Schools Baseball and Softball League and that no one school can dominate all divisions. The rivalry of Ateneo and La Salle has now intensified and is shown by the quality of their games and this makes next season even more interesting.
